Practical Tips
Kutaisi Airport to City Centre: Shuttle, Taxi & Night Tips
Choose the right Kutaisi airport transfer with a checked shuttle timetable, clear fare sourcing, taxi-booking questions and practical advice for late-night hotel arrivals.

Getting from Kutaisi Airport to the city centre is a choice between a scheduled shuttle and a car to your accommodation. The important detail is the time you leave arrivals, not just the time your plane lands. This guide covers the city transfer in Kutaisi, Georgia: where to board, how to compare costs, what to do after midnight and how to avoid booking the wrong hotel night.
Transport information checked on 28 October 2026. Use the linked airport timetable again before travelling; the fare reference below is identified separately because its official announcement is older.
Choose your transfer before you land
For a solo traveller with manageable luggage, the city shuttle is a sensible first option if its departure fits. For a family arriving tired, or a group with several large bags, a pre-arranged car may be worth the extra cost.
Compare the full journey rather than the vehicle alone:
- Shuttle: a scheduled departure and a central stop, followed by the journey to your accommodation.
- Airport taxi: a car from the terminal, with the destination, total fare and payment method agreed before departure.
- Prebooked transfer: a meeting arrangement you can confirm before flying, including luggage, child seats and delay terms.
- Ride-hailing: a live price and pickup estimate where a car is available; check the app rather than treating a quoted blog price as guaranteed.
If you are continuing directly to another city, make that decision first. A ticket to central Kutaisi and a coach ticket to Tbilisi solve different journeys. Buying whichever bus is easiest to spot outside arrivals can add an unnecessary change.
Kutaisi Airport shuttle bus: stop, timetable and journey
The airport's city shuttle page lists boarding at the arrivals-hall exit and the city terminus at Kutaisi Tourism Center. The timetable checked for this guide shows departures every two hours, on odd-numbered hours, throughout the day and night.
For example, it lists 01:00, 03:00 and 05:00 overnight, as well as daytime departures such as 09:00 and 11:00. The scheduled ride to the Tourism Center is 40 minutes. That is bus travel time, not the total time from landing to your hotel.
Save the current timetable before your flight, then confirm the next departure at the terminal. Find the city-bound vehicle by asking for the destination rather than relying on its colour or the appearance of a bus in an old photograph.
Keep the accommodation address accessible while boarding. Before settling in, confirm that you have the correct service and know which stop you need. Keep your phone, documents and small valuables with you, and place larger luggage where staff direct you.
Fare and payment: what is verified?
Kutaisi municipality's official service-launch announcement, dated 28 March 2024, gives a one-way fare of 5 GEL and says payment is possible by bank card. This is a published starting reference, not a newly confirmed October 2026 tariff; the airport timetable we checked does not display a current fare.
Have a working bank card ready and confirm the fare and accepted payment methods before boarding. Do not arrive with cash as your only plan for paying for the shuttle. A backup physical card is useful if your usual method depends on a phone with little battery remaining.
At that published 5 GEL reference fare, two paying passengers would total 10 GEL and four would total 20 GEL. These are comparison calculations; confirm the current fare and any child-ticket rules for your party.
Include the final walk
A bus arriving in the centre does not necessarily arrive near your room. Look at the route from the Tourism Center to your accommodation before choosing the shuttle, especially if you have a pushchair, heavy suitcases or limited mobility.
Ask your host for the entrance location, not simply the building's address. A map pin can be accurate while the door is on another side of the building. Save written check-in instructions so that a flat phone battery or weak connection does not leave you searching at night.
If that final stretch needs another car, include it in the shuttle comparison. The cheapest individual ticket is not always the lowest-cost door-to-door option for several travellers.
Taxi or private transfer: compare the whole quote
The airport's taxi directory lists Bene Exclusive in the arrivals hall with 24-hour service. It does not publish a city-transfer fare on that page, so ask for a quote for your exact address.
Settle the total in GEL before accepting a ride. Ask whether it is for the vehicle or each passenger, whether airport parking or waiting is extra, and how you can pay. A familiar hotel name is not a substitute for checking the actual destination.
For a prebooked car, send the flight number, arrival date, passenger count and luggage description together. “Four people” can mean four small backpacks or four checked suitcases, and the suitable vehicle may be different.
A useful booking confirmation should state:
- Where the driver will meet you and how you will identify each other.
- The destination address and agreed total price.
- How flight delays and waiting time are handled.
- The vehicle capacity and any confirmed child seats.
- A contact method if you cannot find the driver.
- The cancellation terms and payment method.
These are booking questions, not promises that every provider includes the same service. If a host arranges your transfer, request the same details rather than relying on a short message saying that a taxi is organised.
When comparing a live car quote with the shuttle, use the total for your party. Add any onward ride from the bus stop, then consider whether the remaining saving is worth the wait. There is no need to select the same option for your arrival and departure.
Arriving after midnight: plan the waiting time
An overnight shuttle on the timetable does not mean a bus leaves whenever passengers finish collecting luggage. A flight landing at 03:10 cannot make a 03:00 departure.
As an illustrative planning example, if you reach arrivals at 03:50 and the next listed bus is at 05:00, the wait is 70 minutes before the ride begins. This is not a prediction of immigration or baggage timings; it shows why the landing time alone is an unreliable transfer plan.
Decide beforehand what you will do if your first choice no longer suits. You might wait for the shuttle, request a car quote at the terminal, or contact an already-booked driver. Keep the alternative simple enough to use when tired.
For families, make comfort part of the decision. Keep a warm layer and the children's immediate essentials in hand luggage rather than buried in a checked bag. One adult can deal with the booking while the other keeps the group and luggage together.
Book the room for the night you actually need
Suppose your flight arrives at 02:30 on Wednesday 4 November. A hotel booking beginning on 4 November may only allow check-in that afternoon. To enter a room shortly after landing, you will generally need the night of Tuesday 3 November, with the property explicitly confirming late arrival.
Tell the hotel the local arrival date and time in a complete sentence. Ask it to confirm that the room will be held, how you will get inside and whether anyone will be available if access fails. For an apartment, ask when and how you will receive the key instructions.
Do not assume an airport pickup automatically confirms overnight room access. Transport and accommodation are separate arrangements, even when the same host helps organise both.
Children, luggage and accessibility
For a car transfer, specify each child's age and the type of restraint required before booking. Obtain confirmation that the appropriate seat will actually be fitted. A larger car or a “family transfer” label does not by itself answer that question.
Describe bulky items individually: pushchair, wheelchair, large suitcase or sports equipment. Ask whether they fit with every passenger seated, rather than assuming the advertised number of seats also leaves enough luggage space.
If step-free access matters, check the boarding arrangements for the exact service. Do not infer wheelchair accessibility from a generic bus photo. For a private car, explain whether you need help transferring into a seat or space for a folded mobility aid.
Check accommodation access at the same time. An easy airport ride loses much of its benefit if the final approach involves stairs that no one mentioned.
City shuttle, intercity coach and railway connection
There are several transport products associated with Kutaisi Airport. Read the destination on the ticket and confirm the drop-off point; the word “airport shuttle” alone is not specific enough.
For onward coach travel, the airport lists Georgian Bus, Omni Bus and Metro Georgia among its transport providers. Check the operator's current booking details for your destination and flight rather than assuming that a service into Kutaisi includes a connection elsewhere.
The airport's railway information places the airport station 1.8 kilometres from the terminal and describes a free connecting shuttle. That station shuttle is a different service from the bus into Kutaisi city centre. A railway journey needs its own destination, departure and ticket check.
If your accommodation is in Kutaisi, start by comparing the direct city options. Do not add a railway transfer simply because a station appears close to the airport on a map.
Returning from Kutaisi to the airport
Plan the return independently. Check the city-to-airport direction of the current timetable, the boarding point and the expected arrival at the terminal. Do not assume that reversing the outward journey gives you the correct departure time.
Work backwards from your airline's required airport arrival, bag-drop and boarding deadlines. Then add the time needed to reach the bus stop or meet your driver. The airport's general guidance recommends arriving at least two hours before departure, but your airline's instructions and individual needs may require more.
For an early flight, arrange breakfast and checkout around transport rather than hoping both will be quick. Pack the night before, keep travel documents available and have a backup if the planned ride falls through.
If you are spending your last night outside Kutaisi, calculate the transfer from that actual property. A hotel described as being “near Kutaisi” may not share the same pickup time as a central address.
Build an arrival day that leaves room to rest
For a night arrival, keep the first morning flexible. A relaxed meal and a short walk are easier to adjust than a prepaid excursion with a fixed departure. Our Kutaisi travel guide helps you choose what to do once you have settled in.
If western Georgia is a priority, give a later day to an outing rather than attaching it to the airport transfer by default. The Martvili Canyon visitor guide explains the walking visit, optional boat experience and weather considerations.
TripMate also lists a bookable Canyons Tour in Imereti Region. Its published departure is from Tbilisi, not Kutaisi Airport, so it is relevant if your wider itinerary later bases you in the capital. For a Kutaisi pickup, request a separate confirmed arrangement; do not assume the listed tour includes it.
Before flying, keep four things together: your accommodation address, check-in instructions, preferred transfer and fallback. Our Georgia SIM and eSIM guide can help you plan connectivity, but download the essentials so that reaching your room does not depend on buying data first.

- Which hotel night should I book for a 3am arrival?
- If you want immediate room access, you will generally need the previous night's booking with late arrival confirmed. Ask the property to hold the room and explain how to get inside; a booking starting on your arrival date may only allow afternoon check-in.
